P2 from data DVD Not recognized ??

man I thought that was going to be the answer, I followed the directions and some of my settings might have been wrong before hand, but still not clips show up. Im operating on a workstation from Boxx technologies and its real solid and fast but it seems do be real touchy with upgrades and new hardware (which Ive been doing alot of lately) so I think Im gonna call them tomorrow.

OT now that I upgraded to 5.7 when I start up it is scanning every Avid MediaFiles/MXF folder on every drive, and doesnt recognize files here and there, I have to click ignore, it takes like 10 minutes to start up ?

This really is starting to sound like the files are corrupted, as much as I hate to say it.

Let's try a slightly different tact: instead of using the Avid to verify whether the files are right or not, use the Panasonic P2 Viewer, or the newish P2CMS software and create "virtual" P2 cards. If the files don't load up and play in either of those pieces of software, then something more sinister is afoot.

I just downloaded the P2 viewer (I never had it before) I am trying to figure out how to play clips with it I cant get it to do anything.

In the P2 Viewer, go to Tool (heh) > Setting Virtual P2 Cards. In the rather non-descript dialog box that emerges, between the text that says "The location of Virtual P2 Cards" and the red X "delete" button, hit the button that looks like a ghosted square. Navigate to the drive and folder (or just drive, if your CONTENTS folder is at the root of the drive) and hit OK. Hit OK to close the "Setting Virtual P2 Cards" dialog.

Now go to View > Show the Primary BIN > All Virtual P2 Cards. At this point, if all is well, your MXF files should appear. If you need a pictorial tutorial (heh), check out this site. Let me know what your results are with this.

Cool. That indicates that your media is more than likely just fine, and there's something wrong with a) your Avid, or b) your Avid import process. Incidentally, what format are these clips, and what sort of project are you trying to edit them in?

Oh, just had a thought: in C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Xpress Pro (I think that's the path, but I'm not in front of a system right now), there is a folder called P2. Avid stores some database information about P2 cards and virtual P2 cards in that folder. Delete everything in there, and it should rebuild on restart. See if you can use the Import P2 command then.

OK... time to diagnose whether it's the Avid or the files. Grab your HVX, shoot a couple minutes of test media, and then see if you can use either of the methods of P2 import to get these files to show. Either dump them in an Avid MediaFiles folder hierarchy, or use the Import P2 > Clips to Bin/Media method. This is going to tell us really quickly whether it's the Avid or your archived media.

Yeah new footage imports fine. So does previous footage in my master P2 folder that has never been takin off of the computer. Its like Nero DVD discarded or wrapped the files in something that Avid doesnt agree with...? It does show up in the P2 viewer though.
