P2 footage not ingesting into final cut OR p2cms

We have some footage that was offloaded from a NEXTO device that we have been unable to bring into final cut or p2 cms. We get an unknown format error.

We have the contents and lastclip.txt file

The only files we have in the contents folder include the AUDIO and the VIDEO file folders. In those folders contain the .mxf files.

All other folders in the contents folder are empty.

Is this footage lost or are there any last ditch efforts I can do?

There should be files in the CLIP and ICON directories too. Are you saying that you don't have those? If so, then you don't have the full contents of the P2 card, which is why you're having trouble with those programs.

You aren't hosed, in any case. If you have the MXF files then you can make it work. Any Windows editor can import those MXF files directly, no problem. If you need to use FCP, it's trickier but you can still get there. If you want to do it the easiest/best way, get Calibrated's MXF Importer software or MXF4MAC, either of them should be able to import just the MXF files without the rest of the directory structure. If you want to do it the free way but more work, if you have P2CMS installed on the FCP system, you can just drag the MXF files right into FCP but you will have to manually import each of the audio files too, one by one.

And the first thing you should do is find out whoever copied the footage over without copying ALL the directories INTACT, and fire them.

Thanks Barry!

I'll try all of these options. We don't have the entire contents of the p2 card. I'm helping a friend out on his first feature documentary shot in a 3rd world country, and there was a power outage during the transfer (disclosed this to me after previous post). He never checked the footage after the outage... So his fault entirely.

I'm usually able to troubleshoot p2 (rarely have to). And i've not seen this one before, looks like we have a user error here.
