P2 footage converted in FCP and then became corrupted.

Ok I am shooting at a conference and everything was going fine until I converted my P2 footage to quicktime in FCP. I started editing with the files and things were going great. I copied the quicktime files in the capture scratch folder to a different drive and deleted the original files. When I went to edit with the files again 99% of them didn't work. The files in FCP would just have a green screen when I went to watch them. When I opened them in the finder the quicktime file said it was missing some file and couldn't open. So I have lost all the footage from that day. Not too happy. If anybody has any info that would be great.

What version is that? Apple has acknowledged problems with 5.0.4 for instance -- if you aren't on 5.1.1 or 5.1.2, you should upgrade.

Once you move your capture files to a new hard drive, you have to use the Reconnect Media function. Do the clips have a red slash across them in the Browser? The problem with 5.0.4 is not a problem, there was just not any P2 support until 5.1. And P2 support in OS X is not fully ironed out yet. But that has nothing to do with your situation. Once they're QT files, we're in a whole different ballgame.

If the Finder tells you some reference file is missing, then something is really wrong. Never delete old files until the new ones have been tested. Something went wrong.

Do a Get Info on one of those QT files, check the permissions on it.
