P2 file system s*cks... Or is it just me?

Not sure if it is just me, inserted 2 P2 cards for 142 mins of interval recording. Turned out the file names are here and there, not continuous in numbering...

Well I can't speak to the HVX200, but on the HPX250 -- the first four numbers are sequential, and they import into Edius in order.

P2 file naming sucks. When we used our HVX200 frequently we often got duplicate filenames making it hard to edit in Avid due to conflicts.

Thats weird because a date and time stamp is part of the filename protocol.

Only reason I can think it might happen would be a spanned clip or a clip that was ingested twice.

Whatever..

I always did a sort on Start Timecode Column. Easy as and I liked the "unique naming protocol of P2...unlike the very dangerous AVCHD repeat naming protocol.

Never liked how cryptic P2 filenames were though ..whenever looking for one.

I use P2 Viewer to combine multiple cards, then import into Premiere CS5.5 using Media Browser, then sort via Timecode. Never a problem.

Been using P2 for many years, never had that. The only weird thing I had was a bunch of files that vanished out of their folders after I did a system restore, which was pretty alarming. I had everything backed up, so the world didn't end, but it was kinda strange.

You can name the files in numerical order and specific to the project in FCP 7 Log & Transfer, but I just do the timecode sort, as mentioned above. Works great.

And for spanned clips, just make sure you have the two cards mounted at the same time in Log & Transfer... Then they come into FCP 7 as one.
