P2 FCP import problem emergency fix

This is not the best solution to salvage a lost P2 clip that will not import but it will work in an emergency and requires P2 Viewer.
Here is what I did:
>On my G4 laptop which does not have FCP installed, I opened my P2 viewer and then the lost clip which I had already stored on a LaCie hard drive backup in P2 format.

>I exported the xml to my desktop as a Quicktime and then burned it onto a DVD.

>Then I put the DVD into my G5 and and imported it into FCP.

>Turns out that some of the video was corrupted but not all. I mainly needed the audio file anyway so this was a suitable solution-but too labor intensive.

It seems as though nthis might have been a firestore problem because the video was funky but then again, it might have been the way the Mac processed it. It played fine in the FCP P2 import canvas-so who knows?

Both Apple and Focus should make an effort to work this out as it is really a problem.
This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

What p2 viewer are you referring to on the G4 laptop?

The p2 viewer is Windows only. If you are referring to p2 Log, it requires the DVCProHD codec to be installed.

This was a know bug in the Mac OS. 5.1.4 should fix it. Problem is FCP reported clips as corrupt that weren't. I've had great success since the (broken) 5.1.3 update. The FS-100 doesn't do anything to corrupt the clips, it's a Mac P2 bug.

David,
I'm referring to P2 Log.
My files were DVCPro 50 this time but if I recall correctly, I copied the HDCodec onto my G4 so that I'd be able to use P2 Log with HD as well.

FCP 5.1.3 still has that new-software smell, it's brand-spanking new -- maybe two weeks old. FCP 5.1.4 isn't out yet, and I'd be surprised to see it anytime soon, given that FCP 5.1.3 was just released.
