P2 drivers crashed Avid

I installed the P2 drivers and now avid will not start at all on my laptop. I uninstalled both the drivers and avid and the sound card drivers and reinstalled everything to get this same error when it gets to the initializing the media streams manager:
assertion failed:isAudio || isVideo
File:\coresw\ame\msmdb\localMDB.c, Line:1942

I hit the continue button when i see this and I get this:
Error occurred while initializing.
*Exception;FATAL_ERROR, msg:assertion failed: isAudio || isVideo,
File:\coresw\ame\msmdb\localMDB.c. Line: 1942

File:\ppg\UIshell2.0\coreclasses\AApplications.c, Line 3291
I hit continue and then I get a runtime error and avid crashes.

When I uninstalled Avid i made sure everything was deleted and made a new directory name in case something was pointed to the default folder and I still get the same error.
Any help on this out there?

Hey Aram, does your laptop have memory card slots? Like those used for digital cameras (like SD, Compact Flash, etc.)? Although I did not get those exact errors you're describing, I did have a problem with Avid starting when I installed the P2 drivers.

After some tests, I found that this was caused by the additional memory card slots on my laptop. I had to go into the BIOS and disable the on-board memory card slots, which I didn't mind since I don't use those kind of memory cards (plus, you can always reenable them). Apparently, the P2 driver sees these extra slots instead of just the PCMCIA one and gets confused...

Once I did this, Avid and the P2 Viewer software worked without a problem.

Besides Avid, does your camera see the P2 cards with the P2 Viewer software?

i didnt have the camera long enough to know about the the camera seeing it with the software.
I have an Inspiron 9100 thats about a year and a half old and it has no other slots but I will check the bios incase its enabled anyways.
The P2 viewer sees the card when its in the slot but I dont know what its supposed to do. I just draggged the footage off on to my drive for later playing around with.
I tried repairing XPsp2 also and still have the same error. :(

I ran into the same problem on my HP8200 desktop system after I installed CPR 5.2.3. I can't go into details at the moment because it's late and I need to get to sleep but will follow up as soon as I can. But I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I get the same assertion failed error message.

I'll stay in touch. Good luck.

Aram,

I know that my problem wasn't the same as your but the error message I got was very much like the one you posted. I have now downloaded and installed 5.2.4 and Xpress is runnning and accessing the 720p30p files and all the various format files I've tried.

Good Luck,
Herb Forsberg
