P2 Clip loss with HPX Battery failure

Just seeing if this has happened to anyone else or at least letting people know it can happen.

When the battery dies on the HVX-200, it shuts down the camera first, saving your work. When the battery dies on an HPX-500, it shuts off instantly and losses the data recorded on your card, unless it was a spanned clip in which case it only loses the last segment of the clip.

This last clip this happened on was one that i really needed and was one segment only and it's now toast. The timecode of the clip after starts where the clip before left off, like it never existed. All thats left of my clip is the thumbnail and clip name with no data and which FCP, Raylight, P2log, etc wont touch...

That being said, im making sure we keep a better eye on battery life, it's happened twice, last time nothing crucial, this time its a real pain in my ass trying to edit around this segment being gone, especially as it contained our audio tracks. We also started doing one transmitter to two receivers on two separate cameras so we're not tied to one camera for anything crucial

Have you tried repairing the clip? The P2 file system automatically saves and closes every file every two seconds, so in the absolute worst-case condition you should only lose the last two seconds of footage, everything else should be there.

I did the repair clip feature inside HDLog but the clip itself is only 4k or so and like i said the clips before and after have continuos timecode together, as if the clip never existed. Is there another method im unfamiliar with?

Repairing the clip in-camera. Do you have the footage on the card? Whenever this happens to you, always immediately fire up the camera and go into the P2 menus and choose "repair clip" and it should salvage the clip every time.

That is a beautiful thing right there! I didn't realize that was a feature. Luckily (knock on wood) I haven't had this happen or had the need for it, but that is a wonderful feature!

OK, so this is weeks old but i obviously have the P2 folder. Can i transfer the folder to a new card and then re-insert it in the camera or does repair clip only work directly after the fact?

I read about the saving 2 seconds bit but this time i couldn't figure out how to repair it. This will be wicked sweet if it works...
