Not about looking for issues, it's about comfort and I'm not comfortable with it. I like my footage on tape. Even if I go to "tapeless" aquisition I will still run tape for back up. It just makes sense. And I have heard of people having problems with P2 because it's still a purely digital medium and corruption, ect can occur.

In context to what you're saying, tape also records digital code. And tape has moving parts which can (and has) caused dropouts/damage.

Look, I've been reading what you're saying and I just shake my head in awe. But hey, if that's the way you want to go then go right ahead.

tape is a terrible, degrading format that IMHO isnt trust worthy, ive lost so many tapes to damage from dropped frames and and broken tape. ANd like DC said it still records a digital format. Im not going to dignify Nathyns "troll like" response to me, im insulted personally.

Anyways, i do alot of live sporting even work and working with straight digital files that dont need to be recaptured? Theres no chance of breaking a tape at all, and ive yet to see any complaints about corrupt video files from the P2 card. It may be extremely isolated. Hell i havnt had a single corrupt file in the 24 plus hours of footage captured straight to the internal HDD on my Macbook Pro.

Not to mention everytime you play a tape back it causes wear and tear on the physical tape , and the stress of it over time kills it, along with the heads in the camera.

Zero moving parts FTW!

Hard drives are so cheap as well, that having even as many as 2 backups of a drive is easily do able on any budget. Footage is important and is always on the top of the list for anyones budget and if you are a pro, thats what you do, you backup your work.

Here at my office we have our own personal backups of our work, (design for retail, DVD's, HD-DVD's and software...etc...) some files are 200gb alone, at the end of the week, we backup to network drives, and then there are backups of every single network drive upstairs in our server rooms.

This battle is looking pretty well done here. I'd dig up the picture of the dead horse (if I could find it), but short of that, we'll just agree to lock this up here 'n' now...
