Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and hope i will soon be able to help others. I just got my splendid HVX200 and was wondering whether it was better to get 2 8Gb p2 Cards or one of 16Gb knowing the fact that the laptop I'm gonna be using has no PCMCIA entry?

Thanks for your help..

I think 2-8's is a better option because you can offload one and use another which can give you more shooting time rather than completely stopping production to offload that one card. I have 2-8's myself and that system has worked well for me.

I believe that Panasonic has discontinued or will soon discontinue 8GB P2 cards. Your choice is simple, if you will only have these cards, I would get two so you can rotate them out as you shoot. If you will only have a 16GB card, you will be able to shoot for 42 minutes maximum, then you will have to stop and dump the card, which takes about 6-8 minutes.

So it depends on which type of shooting you do, but if you need continuous shooting capability, you would undountedly want two cards.

but thi swould be in the case the laptop I use has a PCMCIA entry to upload data from one p2 card while the other one is being used in the cam, right?

But if the only way of uploading the cards to the laptop is through firewire? (until maybe getting that PCMCIA to express-card adapter)

thanks for all ;)

Two 8s are better than one 16. Two 16s are better than two 8s. Two 16s are better than one 32, etc.

Having two is better than having one, if the price is approximately the same.

Well.. the guy from the shop told me (as I guess they are no longer going to sell 8Gb cards and he sure wants to reduce/eliminate his stock) proposed me two 8Gb cards for the price of one 16Gb. The price was 632,20€ (from spain) per 8Gb card and 841€ for a 16Gb card. Therefore it would be two 8Gb card for 841€ instead of 1264.40€. Damn... why that difference?? Why only 200€ for an 8Gb diference in size ..?

anyway...

I guess i should take that offer.

Thx

TWO cards is IMO better than ONE. that way you can shoot to one while you transfer the other.

but it all depends on what kind of shooting you do and if you need longer individual takes - then that could change the situation

We have 4 8 gig cards and I would still take that over 2 16's.
Might be different for different projects and Edit Systems.

For us doing mostly corporate long form and commercial productions, having more "folders" makes keeping track of shots and segments much easier.

We usually don't even fill the 8 gig card before moving on to the next scene or segment unless we are shooting 1080i, and then we hardly ever fill more then 2.

In SpeedEDIT we have fewer clips to sort through. Simply veiwing the large icons and being able to actually play the icons makes it a snap to make editing decisions.
There is no benefit to having multiple segments in the same folder.

Our timecode notes reflect what cards have what segments more then timecode now days.
Sure makes editing large amounts of footage easier.
JMHO, but looks like most here agree. 2 smaller cards are better then one big card for most of us if that helps.

Sorry, couldn't read the forum earlier.

Thanks again for the help. Just got my 2 8Gb P2 cards. Thanks all, thanks, TedRR ;)
