P2 card vs Tape

I have a $60K Rimage with a custom built-in Blue-Ray P2 archiving solution.

Never used it. We still archive to VXA tapes.

PS: We had used the Archiving to DVD prior to tape and it just wasn't practical.

$60k? I'm curious as to how that one works...

RE: the Archiving to DVD, yes, completely impractical. But with the storage options for Blu-ray it doesn't seem nearly as impractical as DVD. The amount of data that can be saved on a blu-ray while still maintaining the orginal architecture of the card for at most a buck a gig seems like a no brainer. It's like shelving a p2 card at a fraction of the cost.

32BG P2 card doesn't fit onto a 25GB BD, nor is it an efficient use of a 50GB BD either.

And with 64GB P2 cards, BD is no longer an option at all.

Scalable storage with minimal waste is the way to go.

Which is my point, thats why we dont use Blu-Ray to archive. All content is moved to 1.5TB individual Raid 1 Drives, mirrored to 10 (160GB) VXA tapes.

The software checks everyday for updates and records to data tapes as content is added.

The upgrade I mentioned will replace the current VXA workflow with a 100 tape 320GB LTO system which will be fully automated.
