P2 Card Problem - Can't Download Clips

I guess this is what happens when one ignores the signs. I have a P2 4 Gb card that I've been using on a constant basis ever since I got my 200 years ago. I have a PCMCIA card that I have been using of download the files to my PC. For a while now I have been having a bit of annoying problems, such as getting the cardbus to even recognize that I just put in the P2 card. It got bad enough to the point where I would have to start my PC up with the card in the slot for it to see it.

Well, it hit the fan last night. I came home after shooting several (~20) short clips that I need to composite. Several hundred dollars worth of work for me. Had problems with the card being recognized so I did the now standard starting the computer with the P2 in the slot. While just in the infancy of booting, I get a huge blue screen indicating a problem with start up. Before I sat down to examine the messages, I ejected the P2 from the slot, and the computer continued to start up.

I realized that the slot was finally out of lives, so I tried to use the USB to download the data. It started to download but after only 2 clips it came up with an error saying that there was an incompatible format and it stopped. I looked at the clips in the viewer on the camera, and all of a sudden the it would stop either at the beginning or the end of a clip and just go back to the thumbnails when I tried to play them, not trying to play the rest.

I went down to my local Video store to get another P2 card as I didn't know for sure whether it was the card or the slot, plus I needed it first thing this morning for another shoot. They checked out my card using a Panasonic external reader to see if they could offload the files and experienced the same problem I had. Also, they too couldn't get the clips to play from both the camera and the reader. After shooting this morning, I downloaded the files from that shoot to my laptop using the USB and tried using the cardbus again with the new P2 just to confirm it wasn't the old card just losing it. The new 16 Gb P2 wasn't recognized either in the slot.

I can see all the thumbnails and files on both the computer and the camera, but obviously something has changed on them and I can't use them. Tried the repair clip, doesn't even see it. Any ideas on how to get these clips? Again, they have the appropriate file sizes and all the proper information showing on the screens, but just can't be download or played back (incompatible format). I need these or else I'm out several hundred dollars, so if you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks, Stuie

I'll try that later this evening. I have a feeling that it won't work, but at least is another thing to eliminate as I go down the list. Thanks for your response, will let you know later.
