P2 card pricing/deals

Panasonic in europe just announced that the card prices are coming down at the end of this month:

WIESBADEN - 22. February 2011 - Panasonic Marketing Europe GmbH has announced new reduced RRPs for its entire line-up of high-capacity, high-speed P2 cards. From this February, the company’s E-Series of 64GB, 32GB and 16GB P2 cards will be available with RRPs of €505, €350 and €276 excluding VAT, respectively

€505 + 20% VAT = $834 and at B&H it's currently $885, so instead of being overpriced, they are simply going to be in line with US prices. It's good to see the world coming into balance, I'm usually used to seeing the old world getting the shaft on prices for electronics.

As suggested by MotionFX, I wrote to TMS for a quote on a 64GB and got a reply I couldn't quite understand. Maybe a price drop is what he's referring to, although I don't know why I'd buy ASAP if the price will go down soon:

I appreciate the email. I am waiting to hear from Panasonic about how to proceed. New sales price drops below our cost... I'd pull the trigger ASAP if you hear of someone who has them in stock. I have them, but no word from Panasonic releasing them...

Yes, the E-Series P2 cards have just dropped in price. We're offering the 64GBs at 692.50 and by now most dealers should be offering them around 695.00 as well.

If I understand correctly, he's saying that they have stock at the old price, so at this time they're unable to offer the new price for the cards that are on the shelf.

Depending on the situation, sometimes dealers can get back a credit on the difference for stock. And sometimes we can't. It sounds like they are waiting on a confirmation from Panasonic if they will get the new price for their current stock.

That being the case, if you find a dealer with new stock at the new price then go for it.

Although if you haven't purchased from another dealer yet, it would be kind of you to check back with them now and see if they can honor the new price or not.

I could use another 64gb card, but instead will soon buy a $500 laptop and copy my filled cards at the shoot with the AJ-PCD2 card reader. A laptop is a better use of my money.

Hi, I have not been on the forum for some time so I don't know the last developments regarding P2 cards. Is the 128 Gb card already available? What does it cost and did the 64 GB card drop in price (I paid 720 euro for it 1.5 years ago) ?

No word on 128 GB yet, but for new 64 GB card pricing, have you read this thread yet?

Aside from the recent price drop from Panasonic, I don't think there's much point in looking for big discounts. Everyone prices them at or near list.

Lucky me, I bought another 32gig at the end of January.

I wonder if the Japanese situation will effect supply. Nintendo and Apple are already having issues.

The price drop is cool, but like the other poster I'll likely buy a mid range laptop and the P2 card reader.

I hope that rental rates for the p2 cards have dropped as well.
