P2 card prices

its good to see Australian companies such as FOX and ABC Australia are in the know when using the P2 technology.
 
Also good to see the pressure of Australian companies forcing down the price in the US

What about us in the UK don't the BBC use P2?
or Australia for that matter

Could somebody post any links to these kind of adapters?
Or even better: cheap pc-card->usb adapter that could be used either with laptop or desktop.
I'll have to change my old powerbook to mbp very soon...
 
There will likely never be a "cheap" USB adapter. But there is a cheap expresscard adapter, and a cheap PCI-bus adapter. There are non-cheap USB and FW800 adapters.
 
Thanks. I guess the only other concern will be; can the pcmcia drive of your computer handle the increased card size? Or the duel systems adapter for that matter. Many of the HP notebooks had TI drives that couldn't even handle the 8G.

I am a little dissapointed that Panasonic still hasn't adressed this with their own adapter. We shouldn't need to use the camera as the primary offloading device and the P2 store is cost prohibitive especially if you do not require its functionality.
 
Its good that P2 prices are falling but I'm still in the hunt for 4gig cards. I'm sure rental houses will eventually sell them. I guess a good price would be half of what an 8 cost now; even used.

Good point, but I think I red DuelAdapter is working with Panasonic on his adapter. Not sure though.
 
If 32 gigs will be $1,300, then the AJ-PCS060G 60 GB Portable Hard Drive doesn't make sense at $1,500... it can't even fit two 32 gig cards.
 
Tom James, a Panasonic representative, said during a demonstration here in Hawaii the other year that the P2 Store was only a stop-gap measure until the P2 cards grew in capacity.
 
I haven't heard any Panasonic rep say that, but it seems obvious to me. Why bother with a P2 Store, when you can have six hours of recording time in-camera? P2 Store makes sense when card capacities are tiny; for the 4GB cards it was very useful. But with 32GB cards -- what do you need a P2 Store for? Heck, two 32GB cards gets you a long, long, long way towards having the full capacity of a FireStore.

I think the P2 Store is likely never going to be updated. As card capacities grow, it becomes less relevant.
 
I am confused, will there be other devices needed to work with 16GB and 32GB cards besides what is already included in our < 8GB work flow? Or just the firmware?
 
You will need an upgrade firmware for your HVX200 to use the 16GB and 32GB cards. You will be able to download it on the Panasonic website sometime in June.
