P2 card knowledge!!

Ive been filming with tapes because I can fit more footage on a tape then a P2 card ( obviously the cost of tapes is easier to work with too..lol) but I was wondering how the picture look is really worth it or not?

HD is not an option on tape unless you want to go with HDV, and with a 4:2:0 color space I don't consider it such a great option.

You can only record standard def when shooting to tape. If you have no use shooting HD, sell the HVX and pick up a used DVX100.

The HVX is a great SD cam (for all but 60i)... and it's native 16:9. In a number of ways it's preferable to the DVX for SD work...

The difference between Tape and P2 is amazingly huge !
The first is SD, the second one is HD !

not really sure what youre talking about...

- are you using the HVX200? or some other camera? as the hvx doesnt shoot HD to tape.
- SD vs HD. HD is WAY better looking.
- the ease of use with P2 IMO pays for itself in about 3 jobs in time saved compared to tape. i cringe now anytime i have to work with tapes...

And if you're talking about DV (which you must be, since you're comparing to tape) then keep in mind that a 16GB card stores *more* DV footage than a tape does. And a 32GB card stores more footage than two DV tapes. And a 64GB card stores more footage than four DV tapes...

thanks everyone for your input... it seems p2 cards are the thing to go with , I figured as much I just don't have the money to spend on p2 cards.

if anyone knows of a cheap site to go for p2 card please let me know.

If you want to shoot HD, I'd say that buying DVCPro tapes is a more expensive route than using P2 cards. Those tapes are huge too! Today, P2 makes more sense than ever.

i see what your saying in the long road it would be cheaper.... but i don't have 1000 bucks to spend on a p2 card , I just saw that the new e series came out and that is like 600 hundred ... just need to save up for it I guess

I am curious. You have a p2 camera and no P2 card. Did you buy an HVX years ago when they did not ship with a card?

If you are talking DV codec it is what is is. I will say the sensor in my HPX-170 shoots cleaner DV footage than my DVX100B. I also get metadata, WFM, VECSCOPE, delete last clip and a host of other features that making shooting DV to p2 a real upgrade.

I did get it a year or 2 ago and no it didn't come with a P2 card , I wish it had ...would have made my life alittle easier..lol

P2 cards are available on eBay for good prices. Remember too that you can also record HD directly to a laptop or firestore hard disk device.

Otherwise, using an HVX strictly for SD is a chaste marraige ; )
