P2 Card Importing into Avid Liquid Pro

I use Avid Liquid Pro and have not had a single problem seeing any of the devices or media format that I import either through firewire or BOB/mojo except the HVX200 and the P2 card. Liquid sees the camera but not the card and I'm trying to import 1080i x 1920 DVCPro100. Any ideas?

Have you tried updating the P2 drivers onto your computer. You can download them from the panosonic web page or from the disk you recieved with your P2's. If your using P2 16GB there are new doenloads you have to use from the website to get them to work.

I thought Liquid didn't support DVCPro? You might have to use raylight or similar.

Hi Rach2000, well as with most things in my business I've mislocated the disc AND I've searched the Panasonic website and cannot find the drivers to download - other than some driver update but I have to have the first drivers before doing that. Do you know where the drivers are for the P2 card?

Actually DVC Pro and DVC Pro HD is right in the list of timeline properties and import and even has an XSend feature if the files are accessible from the camera. The issue I'm guessing is the camera isn't totally visible. It's showing up under "My Computer" as a DV Digital Camera Player device - BUT - when trying to explore or open it the result says "Check the connection or the device is being used by another application" or something very close to that. I'm guessing it's the driver thing . . which has never been installed on the "AL" machine.

If someone knows where the drivers are (not the update drivers because they recquire the initial ones be installed first) I'll download, try it, and report back the results.

The link in the previous post will get you to the drivers.

Install the P2 drivers, and connect the camera using a USB cable. Configure the camera for a USB connection instead of IEEE 1394, put it in MCR mode, and then press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds -- the LCD should turn blue and indicate that the camera is connecting. At this point, the P2 card(s) in the camera should mount as removable drives on your desktop.

If you are connecting the camera to a PC using a Firewire connection or without drivers, you won't be able to access the P2 card contents. You'll be able to capture what the camera sends out the DV port, but that requires both up-to-date IEEE 1394 drivers from Microsoft (included in Windows XP SP2 and later) as well as support for DVCPro50/DVCProHD in the software you wish to use to capture -- something that just understands DV or HDV will not work.

Hi THoff,

RE: "Install the P2 drivers, and connect the camera using a USB cable. I ran the .exe file and it ran for a sec and then asked for me to hook up the camera USB and continue. There aren't any options to set the camera in anything other than 1394 so far as I can tell. I checked all the screens and none have an option in the record mode for USB. Then, in the play mode all that comes up is the P2 card scenes and depressing the MODE does nothing. Thus, when I tried everything I can think of to get the unit to do the INSTALL and it wouldn't because it wasn't seeing the camera I stopped the install.

Now, there is a P2 Manager in the lower right but it doesn't do anything clicking or double clicking and opening MyComputer which used to take seconds now takes about 1 - 2 minutes AND the P2 Device is unaccessible with the same message as before. I'm about to give up on P2. On the MyComputer slowing . . that's not like my computer which is a Dual (that is two) Dual Core Xeon's @ 3.0 GHz with Hyperthreading . . so I have gads of power and I've never seen it "search with the flashlight" on anything.

Please help. If it would help by phone just say and you can call me and I'll call you back or whatever. This machine has to be OK tomorrow as I have a full time person that works on it all day tomorrow AND it has about 10 projects loaded and in progress that need to be finished (one of which needs the HD project but if we can't do it, we'll just tell them that the HVX200 P2 doesn't do it rather than fall in the hole on this one.

The OTHER FUNCTIONS has a PC MODE item in it -- go to that, and set the camera to USB DEVICE.

With the camera in USB DEVICE mode, once you are in MCR mode, press and hold the MODE button for two seconds -- the screen should turn blue then.

Before you give up, try performing the steps as instructed. If it still doesn't work, you didn't install the P2 drivers, or didn't do it correctly. It is important that you not connect the camera until instructed to do so by the P2 driver installer, and that you then put P2 cards into the camera, and finally let it connect as outlined above.
Please help. If it would help by phone just say and you can call me and I'll call you back or whatever.
No need -- just follow the instructions verbatim and don't try to take shortcuts or second-guess the process. It will work.

Where do I get the P2 drivers? Are they in the .exe file "pcdriver_winvista" ?? If not, I don't have the disc handy . . meaning if I had to find it I could actually work the time necessary to buy a new camera to get one if having the disc is the answer before I'd find the disc and manual. I have the case, all the accessories, and the camera and card (all bought new) but to find the manual and disc (that I should have put in amongst the case) would be like the request of the century although it's here somewhere :(

Yes, the "PCDriver_WinVista.zip" file contains the installer for the P2 drivers. It is more recent than what is on the CD, the version on that doesn't support Vista.

Extract the executable, run it, and select the devices you wish to install support for. If this is a laptop, make sure you select the PCMCIA/PCCard slot option, otherwise select just the camera. Do not connect the camera until prompted to do so, and put the P2 cards in the camera before you connect it.

You can download the camera manual here:

THoff, I do appreciate your help in this matter as I would really like to get the project completed and OTD (out the door). Perhaps having already connected the camera and Windows "finding" and "allowing" it was the problem. I have thus, uninstalled the camera from windows and will try to hook it up this evening when my operator is off the machine. Will let you know how it works out and please advise if there are any other considerations that I should take into account before proceeding.
