P2 card filename conflicts

When shooting with the HVX you get random filenames for the clips - occasionally you will get conflicts - files with the same name - However, as a workflow all files are copied into the media files folder. How do you avoid the filename conflicts?

I know you can copy it into /1 and /2 and so on - but then you need to know when there are conflicts - and there may be 100s of files to look through.

Can you name the folders under mediafiles different names or they must be /1 , /2 and so on?

Rumor has it that you can go with a naming structure such as:

/1.YourMovieNameHere-Day1-Card1

/2.YourMovieNameHere-Day1-Card2

/3.YourMovieNameHere-Day1-Card3

/4.YourMovieNameHere-Day2-Card1

/5.YourMovieNameHere-Day2-Card3

. . . etc.

As long as it is number dot whatever you should be fine. That way you can see where all your clips came from. Plus, you can rename the clips to whatever you want within Avid itself.

Hope that helps.

is there a limit to the number of directories you can do this way? we have 250 cards to load this way - while it will be time consuming i think its good to have it organized this way

I don't think there a limit - but I don't really know for sure. I'd say to import some cards like this as a test. Then check the results within Avid to see how it is working out for you. It may be time consuming but the trade-off is that you guys will be well-organized.

just to be 100% clear - i named each dir 1,2,3,4 and so on - i didnt add any other text because there was only one project on the drive

Oh, thanks for clarifying. I thought you actually put names after the numbers. IMO, I would think that knowing exactly where each folder came from would be better. But hey, if it works for you, more power to ya.
