P2 Card Errors!

I just got back from a shoot and plugged my HVX into my PC to offload the P2 card contents to my desktop (PC). One of the cards, unlucky for me the one with the most important shot, is not working suddenly. Before switching to 'usb device mode' I played back the card contents on the cameras LCD and everything looked great. I switched to USB device mode and started copying the files.... half way through the transfer I got an error saying that the card was not readable, and now the card seems to be totally corrupt. I can see all the clip thumbnails in the camera mcr, but none of them play anymore (and they did play fine just moments ago). Plugging the card directly into a laptop shows that the card is empty, and loading the card in the P2 Viewer software on my desktop (via camera/usb) just shows red x's over all the thumbnails!!

Help / Ideas please!? Anyone else have a problem like this?

oh yeah and the error i get when i try to copy files over usb to the pc is "Cannot copy [filename]: The parameter is incorrect"

I just emailed panasonic support with all the details, I will post any replies up here incase anyone else has run into this problem...

Wow! Never heard of that happening! Yikes!

I may be imagining things but . . . I thought there was some feature on the P2 Viewer software that can "fix" cards? Check around for an option like that. If I am wrong, I am terribly sorry for any misinformation. I just don't have it in front of me right now to check.

Yes, please let us know what Panasonic says. I shot several terrabytes worth over a month's time in April and had something similar to this happen to me twice. Both times it was from trying to cut and paste the files in windows rather than just copying the files. I found that all file deletion and formatting should be done in the camera (no P2 Store on this job).

It has been almost 2 months now and still have not been able to figure out this problem. Panasonic sent me a one line response saying "try using firewire," which did not work, and they have not responded to any of my emails since. Today I spoke with tech support and someone is suposed to call me back.....

Since a lot more people have been using the HVX by now, has anyone else had this problem ??

Hi Neil:

Yes, I had the same problem except in my case, the corrupt files will not play back on the camera either.

I spoke with Panasonic and Spec Comm and nobody knows why it happened. I lost 20 minutes of a 60 minute interview. Both other cards played back fine.

Puzzled...

Dan
