P2 Card/Duel Adapter Issue...

I've been dumping my P2 cards on my MacBook pro using a Duel adapter for a few months now with no issues, until today. All of the sudden my computer doesn't seem to recognize the card. I've restarted my computer numerous times and updated all of my software to make sure I have everything I need and still no luck.

Any advice? I need to shoot some stuff tomorrow and dumping my card onto my laptop tonight is pretty essential.

Thanks.

Obvious questions... have you reciently updated anything on the macbook... OS, Quicktime, ETC?

Have you tried to repair disk permissions?

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers then reinstalling them freshly?

Just ideas mind you but most of my troubles seem to come around updates.

All of my software updates are current, i repaired disk permissions, and i uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers; still no luck. Definitely kind of worried about this, any more ideas would help!

Thanks.

You know, I had the same deal happen to me... I didn't seem to update anything when it happened - just started to NOT work one day.

I am surprised that Apple's updates do tend to cause more issues.

I haven't tried doing an install then uninstall just yet.

I'm right there with you, sort of. I can get the cards to mount sometimes. Usually after a restart it works. I haven't used the adapter in a couple months, so I've probably updated something (Quicktime, OS) since thing. Still very strange, as the drivers survived the Leopard update and I've never had an issue. MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.2

Anyone tried emailing or contacting dual systems? Maybe they know of a solution or maybe they are still just saying it's an Apple issue?

i've contacted them and they are replacing my adapter. i've posted that on fresher topics as well. if the adapter doesn't show up in your system profiler and you're running 10.5 then something is wrong with it. but with 10.4 it could just be driver issues.

Would the duel adapter work on a 1.33GHZ powerbook G4 10.4 or do I need to get another kind of adapter?

I just thought of this... and I don't have the p2 card to try this....but once you have filled a p2 card, can you just connect the camera to a labtop via firewire and then just transfer the footage while the card is still in the camera?

that doesn't work for those of us with multiple cards wanting to be able to keep shooting while the full card is being down loaded - using the camera for dloading is not cool for pro applications.

for the guy above asking about the G4 laptop - you don't need the adapter, because the old laptops have the PCMCIA slot that fits P2 cards.

thanks scheteevie, but common sense already told me that you can't shoot and download at the same time... what I was wondering if it is even possible to offload a P2 card using the camera. And I also know that it may not make sense why I would do this.

Help!! I had a MacBook Pro from 2007 and used the duel adapter and was able to transfer my footage from the P2 cards to the comp with no problems. Now I had to replace the older comp with the new MacBook Pro and I can't get the P2 cards to mount to the desktop. I've tried restarting the comp and read-protecting the P2 card, but still can't. Please help!! I need this to work tomorrow for a job.

Alternatively, I could transfer directly from the HVX200 camera, but I've never done that before and can't figure it out on my own. Please! Send advice!! Thank you!!

Have you tried installing the P2 drivers from the Panasonic website? Make sure they're all installed, reboot and try again.

To transfer from your camera, plug your HVX into your MacBook Pro using a firewire cable. Press the MCR button once (so you see your clip icons) and then press and hold the MCR button. You'll see a message saying something like '1394 DEVICE DISCONNECT' and then after a couple of seconds '1394 DEVICE CONNECT'. The P2 card in the camera should appear on your desktop as 'No Name' and you'll be able to copy it as you usually would with the duel adapter. Once you've finished, eject the 'No Name' drive as you usually would. Then you'll have to actually turn the camera off as there's no other way to get it out of the '1394 DEVICE' mode.

Good luck!

I also have issues with the Duel. It will only mount a P2 ONCE if the adapter is removed!!! after that I always have to reboot the mac !! I contacted Duel support and got a snotty answer telling me " its like that".
Any alternative product and I go for it! using FW from camera is NOT my option ( only for emergency)

I just ordered my duel after hesitating for as long as it has been out.
I just did so to get some use out of my MBP with fried FW ports.
I asked my retailer to be able to try it out and if not working, being able to return it.

Alltough not being the only target market right now, I just don´t understand why Duel doesn´t take this stability issues with the Mac more serious.
With everything changing to ExpressCard the P2users will soon be their last clients...
