P2 and Adobe OnLocation

With the most recent release of Premiere Pro CS3/3.1, and the inclusion of the much coveted MXF file format, OnLocation would seem a natural fit to the CS3 Production Studio lineup, and hopefully next in line for a major P2 face-lift.

I recently shot a long-form 2-camera job, and used OL as my redundant backup to the P2 cards. I must confess that it wasn't until I used OL with a P2 configuration that I really sensed the potential for this application.

Although I don't think OL will see it's full potential until it is writing native MXF (and other tapeless formats), and maybe even shows up as a P2 (or SxS) card at the camera , I think that this product has huge potential.

For stationary shoots where one can place a laptop next the camera, this app has a lot of appeal.

Thoughts?

The metadata isn't being transmitted in the stream that goes out through the DV port, so OnLocation will never be able to fully implement MXF support.

At best, it will be able to put the DVCProHD video into MXF containers, and it will be able to populate basic fields like the frame rate, recording date, duration etc., but other things like the shooter name, location, user clip name etc. can't be picked up from the camera.
