Overly share footage of nature

One thing I notice is that if I try to film a "wide" shot of anything with trees, plants, or just overall scenery, it's overly sharp. Example:

(play in HD)

How do I go about making this look nicer?

Thanks in advance.

Gee, that's such a terrible problem to have ... a camera that's too sharp. :-)

The obvious first step is to dial down the detail settings in the scene file menu, all the way to -7 if you want, and play with the coring and skin tone detail settings as well to see if you can get it where you want. Beyond that, something like a Promist filter on the lens can soften things up a bit.

I actually put all the settings down, and it added to much contrast and looked worse. I can upload a video if you want.

Thanks, I'll try those out though. I didn't mess with skin/coring, I believe.

Not quite sure what you are after here, fences and leafless tree branch detail is well....pretty boring. There is a very large amount of image control available by adjusting the scene file parameters. Panasonic has some good info on their pro website about scene files for AVCHD. The Barry Green books cover this in some depth also and will give you some great background on how to find the look you want.

I re-read the HMC Book for the 5th time, and I think I got some scene files that might work, have to wait until tomorrow to try them out because it's dark right now.
