I filmed a theatre production today and took a feed directly from the mixing board. The sound engineer hooked me in and sent me pink noise so I could set the level -- which I did, making sure that no red bars showed on the flip out screen. I used channel 2 for the input, but left channel 1 set to the on board mic (though I set the level to 0).
When I reviewed the footage later, the image was fine -- but the audio was blown out. My question is: why?
Is it that the sound engineer sent left and right into my single channel 2? I noticed that the actors' mikes were fine, it was the musicians' input (heavy bass) that was blown out.
Is it that I didn't do something with phantom power or otherwise mismatch impedances or something?
Was it something else I didn't do properly?
In the end, it'll be OK (I think) since the sound engineer is doing a separate mix which I can match to the footage.
Thanks!
