Overlayed timecode recorded?

Hey everyone...

It's embarrassing to ask, but... here goes. With my FS700 + Odyssey 7Q, I recorded my first few videos in 1080p to ProRes onto the SSD.... after downloading the clips they all have an overlay of timecode in the top right. As I'm away from the camera right now, I wanted to know, is this something that I can hide, or did I actually record with the timecode block right there? Or did I press something to make it permanent on both the FS700 recording and SSDs on the 7Q?

It seems to me like you probably have the FS700 set to output the display overlays over the SDI or HDMI (whichever you used for recording). I'm not aware of an option on the 7Q to burn timecode to your footage - it only records what you send it, so odds are that it is the signal out of the camera that introduced the timecode.

So, bad news, but it sounds to me like your footage has the timecode permanently burned in.

To keep that from happening again, you'll need to go to the Menu on the FS700 and tell it to not send the display overlay over the SDI or HDMI.

In the meantime, did you happen to record the video on an SD card in the FS700 at the same time? You'd have a backup of your footage right there. It would be AVCHD, but at least it's timecode-less.

Yeah, this is what likely happened. I had the Markers on, and seems like that will output the timecode display to my SDI output. Well, lesson learned.... luckily I have the AVCHD version.... ugh... will take a look.

Do you think it will mix okay with ProRes HD? Or will the footage clash because of compression?

Vadim - You can keep the Markers on and still output a clean signal. If you go to the Menu>Display Set>Display Output>LCD Panel, then it will only put the Display information, including markers, on the on-camera LCD and send out a clean signal to the 7Q.

As far as mixing ProRes and AVCHD, it all depends on the shot content and camera, and your output destination. If you're encoding for the web, you'll should be ok. The pixel peepers will be able to tell the difference, but this seems to be your only option, so make the best of it. Trust me, we've all been there and made odd mistakes.

What camera were you using to record the ProRes footage you're wanting to match with? If it was an FS700, were you using the 4K2HD option of the 7Q or just the standard ProRes HD recording?
 
Hey Alan - I was using the FS700 and was simply using the standard 1080p ProRes HD and not the the 4K2HD.

I was recording mostly dark images, products on black backgrounds. Exposure from the ProRes footage is bang on (still banging my head, but it's numb now lol).

No problem! And since you were using the standard 1080p ProRes, then I think your ProRes and AVC files might look pretty decent together. Best of luck with the project!
 
Were you just using the standard SDI output (video mode, not RAW out)? The best results come from using the RAW out and using the 7Q's RAW to ProRes mode.
