overheat 7s

Hi , I am doing Christmas performance for children . It is going to take 2h . I am thinking to order 7s . I am not afraid of my fs100 but 7s can not manage to record so long . What do you think ? Is anyone push 7s so long , any overheat issue ?

The A7s can only record for 29 minutes then it stops recording. No matter if it's overheating or not. If it's not a too hot environment, just hit record again and I think it's not gonna be a problem. You're gonna need to change battery at some point as well.

Yes thanks . My friend had 7s for test . He said for 1h long record was no any sign of overheat . I will have to get 2h long record . Is anyone tried to record longer then 1h ???

Surprised no one has done this test as the NEX compact cameras were notorious of overheating. Especially the NEX 5, 5N etc.

Yes they have the 29 minute limit, but hitting record again and within 5-10mins it would shut down after throwing up an overheating warning. If you were lucky it would continue to record for like 2 hours (4 lots of 29min clips) before overheating. Some guy even designed a mini fan on a small battery for the 5N.

There are no overheating issues with the A7S. I've shot all day in 100 degree weather without any problems. And yes, the NEX 5/7 series were awful about overheating (I owned a NEX7 and returned it for the reason.) I think Sony learned their lesson this time around.

I just made a not-so-quick test:

Sony battery, new, from bag: 90 minutes of continuous recording to go from 100% to 8%
Cheap ebay battery, 2-years-old, from bag: 47 minutes of continuous recording to go from 89% to auto-switch-off.

Sony battery, 2-years-old, just charged: 82 minutes of continuous recording to go from 100% to auto-switch-off.

"from the bag" means the battery was fully charged a month ago
"continuous recording" means it stopped after 30 minutes and I hit record again

Temperatures after 80 minutes recording:
Room 24.5ºC
Table 23.5ºC
Camera 33.5ºC
Camera, below LCD 40.0ºC

That's a total of 5 hours recorded this afternoon. This camera doesn't have overheating issues.
