Overexposure: LCD does not jive with TV screen

Wow, great great forum everybody.

So, i did do a search, i'm sure it's here but i just wanted some info on the overexposure i'm getting. I think my main concern is what i was seeing on the LCD didn't seem to jive (or sync) with what i was seeing on a TV screen. I was using mainly f1.8 (nikkor 50mm) for the tests I was doing. I did see this GREAT technique about jacking down to a lower fstop after locking the exposure. wow, cool. I guess my question is, if i'm going by feel (i wont have any equipment cards or light meters etc), do you just look at the LCD and maybe underexpose it a tad? Or I was thinking maybe ramping up the brightness on the LCD display may help??

I'm kinda doing a lot of last minute research here for an overseas video project (forgive the haste), in any case thanks for any info or thread links.

Neither is tell you the truth. Camera LCD and modern LCD TV aren't capable of fully displaying the brightness range of the entire image. If you try to adjust the midtone brightness to where it "should be" the black area will be crushed. Unless you're using a CRT the best you can do is just guess.

or use scopes, histogram or similar, unfortunately with the d90 you have to leave live view to do so and then your settings are lost, but after you've shot you can check in the viewer or in your nle if it turned out the way you wanted.
