Over/Under Cranking

I don't know how many of you know about the trick to over crank or under crank the HVX (and probably HPX) frame rate, but if I under cranked to say 16 fps, and my normal footage was 24 fps, would it still go in an editing timebase of 23.984? Would it look all lnterlaced with the weird lines? For those of you who don't know, you can save a scene file to a SD card and then open it on your computer in a text editor and then there is a part of it towards the bottom that is half of what your frame rate is. It must be divisible by 2 and for NTSC people, you can go up to 60 and PAL people, you can go up to 50.

oh, and to answer you question: If you are in 720/24PN and you change the scene file to Film Cam, and change the frame rate to whatever you want, it will still play back as a 23.984 (or whatever the number is). Basically if you use this method to get your slow/fast motion, it will always play back at 24 frames per second, no matter what your shooting frame rate was.

If I am understanding your question correctly, yes you can lay your 16 fps footage down on a 23.9xx time line. Most NLE's are going to handle that . . . and it will, of course, play back faster then real time (as, for example shooting 48 fps would play back slower).

You didn't say what NLE you will be using--

You do know you can change your frame rate in camera rather than editing the scene file right? ;)

Crack open that manual or Barry Greens HVX book and start reading! Sounds like you haven't discovered everything the HVX offers yet.

I don't actually own an HVX (yet)... I am an intern with the news and we use them a lot and I am allowed to borrow them for other stuff, but in the next year or two I will probably get one of my own.
