Hey everybody got a question regarding the framerates.. what does it mean when it is said for example : 576/25p (Over 50i) .. its the "over 50i" part i dont understand, i know the p is progressive and the i is interlaced.. but what does it mean when the camera shoots in the mode 25progressive "over 50i" :)

It means it's recorded progressive from the chip but spread across two fields for output.

So you get progressive "look" but with interlaced output for editing in programmes as per regular DV. This maintains compatability with regular PAL or NTSC depending on your camera model.

The same mode as available on the DVX.

Hey Rone, thanx for the reply, got another question though... in my video editor would it appear as interlaced? and after would i have to deinterlace the video?

Depends on your video editor.

You wouldn't have to de-interlace it ..

In your video editor your preview will be either (frame, field 1 or field 2) but this doesn't effect the final output.

It is ready to edit in any DV based editing package.

I recently did a job as 576/25p over 50i.

I ended up with a load of nice progressive stuff in Final Cut. I edited away. When I printed back to DV in the HVX, I got a weird 12.5fps-type effect.

I went back to camera mode, chose 576/25i, tried 'print to tape' again. Got the result I wanted, a DV file at 25p on my tape for playback.

The timecode didn't seem to come along the Firewire. That is, the tape I was recording on was positioned at 00:37:03:22 - as the frames came in from the Mac, the timecode recorded on the tape stayed at 00:00:00:00 for the duration. I suppose I should have changed some setting elsewhere, but it wasn't important.
