Over 400 hours usage in camera...seeing artifacts?

The last project I was working on, I began to have some issues with my camera. An "X" popped up on screen and the footage at that point was filled with digital artifacts. My camera has over 400 hours on it, should I be worried? I've owned a gl-1 and and XL-1 and both of these camera went down to the dreaded clogged head syndrome after recording much less hours than my DVX100.

I've been told that I shouldn't even think about getting the heads cleaned until around 600+ hours.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

That is the silliest thing I have heard today. Thats like saying you shouldnt repair your engine until it reaches 100,000 miles. If it breaks down at 50,000 are you going to just not repair it?

If its having problems than fix it. Get it professionally cleaned or run a head cleaning tape in it.

Well I would hope so. Go clean it or have it cleaned, unless you like looking at crapped up footage. If this is your third camera thats gone to crap in that short amount of time it sounds like you arent doing something right.
