I'm using a PC Avid Adrenaline with the DNxcel HD card, cutting in a 720p/24pn project, and expecting to output to tape (or P2?) at 24fps.
It's enough to have to slog through the inelegant ad-hoc finder level media manipulations to get MXF wrapped DVCPRO HD files into an Avid (with all the folders, subfolders, randomly named files, etc) - but the real headache for me is figuring out a way to get this stuff OUT of the Avid after it has been cut, without significantly altering the image quality. Has anyone had success? Could they share their workflow wisdom?
I also find it shocking that it's impossible to view or output full resolution DVCPRO HD with the DNA [the Avid Adrenaline help menu implies that full resolution can only be viewed THRU a 1394 firewire device]. But how can that be the case with 24pn, which can't be sent via firewire anyhow? Are you forced to transcode if you want full resolution out of the DNA with 720p/24pn?
The only solution that I can think of is to transcode the DVCPRO media to DNxHD 90 and output to D5 or HDCAM at 24fps.
