Output to Varicam Deck 1200

So my footage has come off a P2 Store at 23.98 to FCP. Now I am hoping to output to a 1200ah 720 deck. Can I output to deck at 23.98 via Firewire. Are there any deck settings or FCP settings I need to adjust.
Last time I tried I got video but the audio was really screwy.

If someone has a moment to walk me through I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Brent

Hi:

I am outputting P2 to a 1200 deck as we speak. However, I am using a Aja Kona 3 card and doing the transfer via HD/SDI. I do not have any experience in doing this via Firewire although I am sure that it can be done. I would think that it would be as easy as hooking up the deck and swiching the input to 1394 in the menu.

Best,

Dan

I switched the menu and I get picture just fine; however, I don't get any audio. Actually I do get audio for about 5 seconds then it just gives me a crazy choppy sound. That is when I use Print To Video.
Does audio not go through firewire into the AJ1200h deck...what am I missing here...besides a HD Card.

You cannot output the 23.98 without a pulldown, which is why Dan is not having a problem and you are. HDSDI is always full frame rate with the pull dow inserted. Set your output for 720P with pulldown and it will work just fine.

Best,

Jan

Jan is correct... there is also a bug in FCP5 when capturing 24P footage that will give you the same effect with the audio. This is NOT on the captured clips, just the live monitoring. You can monitor straight off the deck though...

What are your settings?

What are your settings?

Bob,

So where are you at setup wise now? What is your timeline settings (720p60 I think is what you want)?

Firewire carries the video, audio and timecode signals all in the one cable, and to my understanding there is only the 1 firewire input setting you have to worry about on the AJ-1200. So if you're not getting it through then I'd suspect some kind of problem in FCP. Have you done an audio mixdown (I believe that's what its called in FCP)?

cheers.

The timeline is set at 720/60p with a 29.97 timebase. No luck just clickin away. Thats why I am thinking that is is a deck setting. This is going to drive me up a wall...thanks for the help.

Have you down a mixdown?

Have you down a mixdown?

FCP...

Sequence | Render Only | Mixdown

Have you done that? Not 100% sure its the solution, but in the past have had issues with audio in outputs from FCP and using that has always seemed to help. Again, don't know if it will help in this case, but might at least be worth a shot if you've not already used it.

cheers.

Make sure that the deck is set to firewire in... I think it is in the 600s in the menu settings, you may be on SDI or something...

Firewire will add the pulldown on the fly...

Firewire will add the pulldown on the fly...

Okay, I just did a test, my settings were as follows:

Footage is from HVX 200, shot at 720pN/24

I used FCP's easy setup for DVCPro HD 720p/24 to auto configure everything for me.

I created a new sequence. I dropped my footage on to it. Of course as the sequence and footage line up, no rendering or such was required, it was all happy.

I stripped the start of my DVC Pro tape (just so the 1h mark existed on the tape).

I connected the AJ-1200 to my G5 using a firewire cable.

I used Edit to Tape and Assemble Edit.

Voila, my material went over onto my DVC Pro tape without any problems. The audio was fine, the picture was fine, no issues at all. Firewire even inserted the pulldown so I recorded straight from native 24p footage/timeline right to the tape w/o a hiccup at all.

Like Ash said, do make sure setting # 600 is set to 1394 not HDSDI.

cheers.

I did make sure it is set to 1394 because I get picture however I get that audio clicking...like I said before, this is driving me up the wall. I really truly appreciate your efforts to save my sanity.

Sincerely,
Brent
