Output to SDI (1080i) vs HDMI (720p) what gives?

Quick question for someone who uses SDI output on a field monitor with the AF-100. When using HDMI I automatically get a 720p signal on my monitor; however, when outputing through HDSDI the monitor (SmallHD DP6) wants to switch to 1080i. What gives? I prefer the 720p and I'm not sure if this is something I can control from within the AF-100 or if it has to be done through the monitor?

*Barry, I see you used SDI out with a DP6 during "A Verse Before Dying". Did your field monitor display in 1080i versus 720p as well?

HDMI is a communicating protocol that establishes a connection between the camera and the monitor (or between a blu-ray and a monitor, or whatever). The camera is asking the monitor what modes it supports, and the monitor is telling the camera what it supports. Apparently for some reason, your monitor is telling the camera that it only has 720p support.

SDI doesn't ask permission, it just sends the signal and if the monitor can't handle it, the monitor can't handle it. Apparently your monitor can, so it detects that it's a 1080 signal and switches to it.

There isn't an option to convert on the SDI, except for downconversion to standard-def.

I see. That's too bad I can force the SDI signal to display in 720p on the monitor as it looks more crisp than 1080i on a 1280x800 screen. 720 is more native to the screen's resolution. Thank you for the reply as usual!!

Does your monitor provide for 24psf? You could try turning on the PSF on the HD-SDI and get a progressive signal instead of interlaced...

Nope, no luck. In fact, I updated to firmware v1.2 and now my HDMI signal shows up as 1080i, I can't back to 720p no matter what now. the quality still look phenominal though so no big deal. These types of things just bug me and I'd rather be using SDI instead of HDMI anyway. Maybe I'll drop SmallHD a message and just see what they say.
