Up until a couple weeks ago I never had a problem with focusing on a subject. But the last few interviews I have shot have been soft, pretty obviously out of focus when I digitize the footage. It is driving me crazy.
I am shooting interviews on a tripod. Mostly the interviews are indoors in low light areas. This is what keeps happening. I zoom all the way in to focus on the subjects eyes, everything is crisp then when i pull back it looks soft. I've noticed that if i zoom only maybe 70% of the way in and focus; when I pull back the focus is sharper but NOT perfect. Has anybody had this problem before?
The next interview I will have time to measure the distance from the camera to the subject, but this will not always be an option. Basically I would like to know if it might be a camera malfunction, should I get my camera serviced? And am I the only one who has had this problem before?
Additional Question- Is there anything I can do with the footage to salvage the soft shots?
Thank you in advance for any advice!
EDIT: After further searches I think I can classify my problem as a "Back Focus" Issue...Correct? The only solution is to send it in, right? I'm still curious if anybody knows tricks to improve the footage I have already shot???
