Our New House

I was posting in Karl's thread, but thought it would be a good idea to just start a new one over here.

As many of you may or may not know, my wife and I have been looking to purchase a home for about a year and a half (we started even before we got married).

We had made five offers, all of them being turned down for one reason or another. (One was accepted but further research into the neighborhood revealed it to be very dangerous).

Finally, in early August we saw a home that we loved! The layout was great, it was a lot larger than some of the other homes we had seen... but... it was a short sale...

Let me tell you, it has been a grueling four months, but thankfully we did CLOSE on the home this past Tuesday (the 7th).

Now, the previous owners left the house in a mess... I am pretty sure they haven't cleaned anything in four months, add the moving out onto that, and it was pretty disgusting.

So, before moving in, we decided to renovate a bit, at least to make it clean! :)

This is NOT a plug and play type of home, as it needs a bit of work.

Phase 1 was to paint the downstairs (the walls were barely white they were so dirty), and here are some pictures from last night. (My grandparents spent the entire day, while we were at work, painting a couple of the rooms)

I will post more up as we go along, and hopefully some better quality images as well.

I recommend buying a book at home depot called Home Improvement 1-2-3. I've been renovating our house for about a year now and it's been an invaluable resource.

.....and now the fun begins! Congratulations Brandon, you've reached another milestone in your life...a Homeowner.

One thing you'll find, there's ALWAYS something that needs to be done, it's a never-ending battle.
Enjoy.

Were these taken with a phone cam? Good stuff - who needs pr0n, when you got home improvement pics :)

Is the stove new? Looks pretty clean, and has what looks like seran wrap around it...

Buy black out curtains you can get at Target. Saves energy during summer months. Good job!

Well we are moved in! We finished painting most of the upstairs on Friday, and moved most of everything today! It's a big place and we have very little furniture! But over time I am sure we can make it nice and furnished! So excited to begin the endless project that is home ownership!
