Our first Short "Shoelaces"

Ok everyone!
Here is it. Our first ever short. "Our" meaning a group of us in Salt Lake City Utah that wants to do film. "Coalition Media Group" A few from this forum.
The film is kind of a take off of an old 80's teenage film called "Some kind of Wonderful"

(Synopsis): Everyone has the urge to change every so often.  
Join Kyle on his quest to change to from geek ...to sleek.

He enlists the help of Sam who is just as much of a gamer and a geek as Kyle.

Sam works her miracle and before you know it Kyle is a changed man ready to go on the prowl for his next door neighbor.
The time comes and … Shoelaces happens!

After all, you can’t change who you are…

Or maybe you can!

Anyhow the reason we decided to do this story is because we thought we could shoot it in one day and it would be one we could all learn on. and that it would be an easy one. As you will see we made a lot of mistakes. But overlooking the mistakes it is an alright beginner film.
We soon found out after adding more to it, it took a total of 4 full days of shooting. Not to mention the 5 months planning and editing, making a movie is not as easy as some might think.
We have entered this film into two film festivals coming in January. Both Slamdance and LDSBOX we hope that it will be accepted.

We are currently working on another called "The Speed of Life" Planed production in December.

about 20min... I have smaller ones... it is... I think they are to small.

I cant get less then 100mb on a 7min without loseing all the good stuff. :-[

Nice short. The editing flows well, only a little long in a few spots. The shot composition was also good. The "sky crane" shot at the end is a nice "pro" touch.

As for the story, I have to admit I felt as if I was watching an after school movie. It's a nice story and the acting is good. But, from the start, I could guess the storyline.

Overall, very good work for your first short.

I would have to agree with you. We thought some of the dialog was too chatty in some scene's. We also like most of the DP work... Mark Monciardini... one of DVXUSER's members When you see him let him know.
About the editing? I produced and edited this project and I appreciate the time you took to express any opinions. I have edited a lot material but never a film. A lot harder than I anticipated, as there was one scene (In the living room) that the audio sucked! And needed a pro to fix it. I am not that pro so I did the best I can with Sound Forge and a book from Jeffrey Fisher.
We all had a very good time shooting this, and the only bad thing that happened was a motorcycle accident in front of Nelsons diner rubberneck you know. every cop cat in town with sirens blazing came.
It was an experience!

Ok guys... feedback feedback… Give me more bones... LOL

In the Vegas forum… I pointed out that I was having problems with 60i in a 24p time line. I took Barry’s Advice and slowed it down but because it was shot with 500 shutter speed… it made it kind of choppy.
There were like two areas that was like this. I still could not get it smooth.
I figured I would just have to live with it.

Thanks for the imput... We are in pre production of our next movie called "The Speed of Life"
It is not a comedy but rather true life drama about a father blaming himself for his little boy's accidental death with his own 9mm.
We start shooting in Dec. Will post some grabs when that happens.

I enjoyed the film. There were some really lovely moments.

I would agree though, a lot of the dialogue could have been cut and a faster pace would really help give the film more energy.

Still, it was excellent and I look forward to seeing your future work.

This short probably wins hands down, the award for most times the phrase, "I mean" is uttered in any fim or tv show ;)

Thanks for the feed back... You win! as in the first person that pointed out something the rest of did not.
I watched it again and counted a total of 6 and all in one scene. Yes I would have to agree with you way too many times especially in one scene. I counted SAM only saying once of the total.
I am going to have to bring that up with the actor.
I thank you for your critique.
