Looks pretty sweet on Safari too. Damn I miss Oregon. Great job guys. really well made.

Right on, good to hear its running nice on safari. For some reason if I play the h264 through QT player or in safari it steps my blacks up and desaturates my nice colors a bit. So I am glad you are getting a nice view in Safari.

You watched all of it, thank you sir! Unfortunately I can't reveal final price the client payed due to contract confidence but I can say that when new clients ask how much we charge I usually have them figure anywhere between $1,500 and $2,500 per finished minute. That is really vague and there are more detailed and superior pricing models we present but it is a good starting point for our corporate customers.

As for how long, we started shooting on 13 August and the last shots were on 24 August. We delivered the piece to the client on 15 September. There was about 240 minutes of material when all was done and said.

All sound was recorded on our one Audio Technica AT897 with a rycote softie on it. This mic was used for interviews and narration. The AT897 is an awesome mic for the money, and we are absolutely stoked how well it is performing for all our pieces. It has really been through hell and it just keeps doin' its thing. Also the AT897 seems to hold great sound in especially loud factory areas where I have had more expensive mics distort. I'm not an audio engineer, and I know there are wayyy nicer mics, but I do hear the difference that this mic made for this particular program.

I hope this helps you out Justin, if there's is anything else I can answer, please let me know as I always try to be a helpful beaver!

Have a super day! :)

Another Justyn here... who can't believe that I watched the whole thing as well. It was very well put together.... enjoyable and pro. I've done a few of these types of things in the past. Love the characters that you get at these companies... The female secretary especially... She might have missed her calling in not doing corn of the cob eating competitions.. but that's besides the point.

Really a pro piece... and enjoyable for this type of vid. What does the client plan on doing with this?

The finished minute price is a great thing. I've gone that direction with a couple of clients. I think that it was more prevalant and more production companies used it in the 80's and earlier when things were on a linear model... but it's a great way to get a good rate when it's done. I once landed a client.. and I still have them now... who were jacked by an indi producer for the sume of 5K per finished minute... so I've been able to charge then 2k a minute and they are happy and thinking they are getting the deal of the century. In the 80's they paid 50k for basically a powerpoint presentation on video.. so everything else they get from me... by comparision seems so cheap....

Thanks for showing!

good stuff, i loved it! very professional, and very inspirational. i hope you made quite a bit on this project, i'm sure freeman marine was very very happy with the finished product. i know i would be!

the hvx is so stunning!! i bet you'll never go back from 24p ;)

Well they overnighted to Monaco the day I handed it to them, so it could be shown that weekend at the Monte Carlo Yacht and Boat Expo. It is going to be used for everything: bringing in wealthy clients and their ship designers, military contracts, employee recruitment, community relations and education, and a few more purposes. That was the real challenge of the whole thing.

Yes its definitely what was being practiced where I started in the 92-93 when we were still banin on D2 and 1-inch.

The thing is, I would like to say that it was all good because of my talent as an elite producer. hehehe

But that just isn't the case. What it takes for us is total immersion into their company and their operation and their community. That's what actually takes the work.

And to top it off, the end result for such a piece can be determined by how proactive the client is in making it a great piece. Freeman Marine and their people are world class and I feel that contributed to it as much as anything else. What's your experience been with this?

Hey there Kyle, I know, I am have been tempted to just super glue my f5 setting wheel down and never change! hehehe

For our fishing show we are shooting 720/30pn. Just because we know our end result is going to be regional tv, and maybe national sooner or later. And I thought I would just keep it smooth and easy, but we are being tempted to go all the way to 24 here every day.

In fact I have never once used anything above 30pn with the exception of one shot, with this camera that I can recall. Crazy but true.

Congrats again. I've been involved with projects for internal marketing videos where the workers have been cool... and again when they've been jerks and doing the videos has been seen as extra work for no more pay. I think it all depends. I did a "happy face" video for Citrix software down south and they were so cool... so happy with the product that they made 1000 copies of it and gave me and the whole crew a big phat tip... that's sweet. On the other side, I edited a boat video for a DP here for 300 bucks.... and it was supposed to just be shown to the boat company to show off his skills and land him a big commerical... Well the next thing I know it's been shown at the boat show on plasma screens and then they liked it so much they adopted it as a marketing video and duplicated it a few thousand times... and then to top it off, it took me 9 weeks to get paid. I did a 10k job for 300 bucks..... some people in our business have no souls.

The ultimate jerk-off though might have had to be the director on the Rooms-2-go instore training video.. and he treated the works like scum because he wasn't used to dealing with real people and not actors. He made people cry he was so mean....

Enough of that though. You have a great piece here and I was glad to watch it.. I too have switched to 24p. Iwas a 30p guy when I got the cam as the 24p just looked too weird while I was shooting.. but the footage when you see it on a monitor back in the editing suite is GLorious.

Good luck with what you have going. Was a pleasure to watch!

Hi Travis,

It looks good!
However, I would highly recommend you to polish the sound and use a better narrator. The narrator sounds bored and has a very low overall energy.
Some of the people talking have annoying background noise that can be easily removed or reduced using plug-ins such as WAVES X-NOISE (a direct-x plugin which samples the background noise and removes it from the scene).
Also, for the narration, using a compressor-limiter can do wonders.
I hope this helps,

Yuval.

I went to High School with half of those people. My mom used to work there and my brothers best friends are Bo Schindlers kids.....I miss Gold Beach.

Looks great, what H264 setting did you use

Looks great, what H264 setting did you use

The video looks awsome, great job.
The web video looks great too, what settings did you use in H264
I am looking for some good settings for my own 720p 24 work
and that is the best I have seen yet on this site.

all aspects of the video look good, professionally done.

i would suggest on the web page you have it auto play instead of having the viewer start it
