Our 1dmrkIV setup for feature television

This is all very nice

Can you describe as a % of cost of the whole production the saving from not renting a Red

It seems that with so much kit the Red would be a small extra cost

I can of course see the benefits of using the smaller camera for the over bed shots etc

this is what confuses me about using DSLR on bigger productions - that red rental becomes a small % of the cost

maybe you get bigger savings from lower lighting levels or faster gripping and set up times ?

Hi Morgan!

Youre right, the margins get closer as the production grows. Ive done mostly small scale commercial and documentary before, where the cams really is an advantage. I cant give you any cost estimate of the production, but they are actually saving money on not doing Red, with regards to manpower, lighting and grip. Norway is a expensive country to make films in, and the money saved is not saved as such, but put into actors and set design, which I believe is something that will benefit the product as a whole. Will post teasers and trailer when finished/allowed :)

Im just interested on the desision process

I think 800ASA and a small rig can have huge financial implications - say on a foreign - where lighting can be cut by 4 and shipping manpower hotels is saved

Mainly I think ASA probably saves more than mass

I think my thought is that the DSLR has little relevance to this type of shoot in a way - what it might enable is a slightly new way of doing things without carts full of kit
