OT - Anyone shooting with a TM-900 as a b cam? Question

Trying to find out if that camera has a AGC disable function to allow me to put a Rode on it. Wondering whether it would be a good second camera for wide establishing shots, say at a concert venue. Set it and forget it. Cut back when needed in the post.

While obviously the smaller sensors are a downside here, I'm wondering what the overall quality is like compared to the HMC150. I've read many reviews saying it's a fabulous camera, considering the price and the fact that it's a high end 'consumer' camera. Also thinking it would be a good "carry with me" camera, quite a bit better than an HD iPhone 4 or Kodak but not so cumbersome as a more 'professional' camera. Throw it in a backpack or suitcase and shoot as needed. Seems like a good fit for that. I like the notion of time lapse on it, and a decent low light ability.

Or am I missing something. (yes, it doesn't have DOF. I do have a 7D when I think I need that). But the TM900 has a manual iris adjustment. Wondering how good it actually is...

I have a TM900 and an SD800 (stripped down TM900) that I use for b cams.

I think they are very good cameras and work perfect for that purpose.

Comparing to the HMC150 the image seems to me to be just about as sharp, but I dont use them for critical shots so that may be why them seem as sharp. I dont think the color reproduction is as good as the HMC and they try to compensate for that by upping saturation. There may be a setting in TM900s that can dial back some of that saturation I'm not sure.

I think the DOF is pretty similar to the HMC. If I want an image with some bokeh I put the TM in Macro mode and it does pretty good, comparable to the HMC. There was a guy on Vimeo that did a TM900 vs a 7D comparison and it wasnt easy to tell the difference between the two. But of course these were some setup shots that allowed the TM to have a shallow DOF. The TM wont get a 50mm 1.4 type DOF.

I did this video for my friend over the weekend using my TM900, SD800, and HMC150

The TM and SD were used for the head and guitar shot, on their macro settings. I thought I had manual focus set on both of them, but somehow the one on the guitar was still in AF and ended up a bit soft. The HMC was used for the fixed shot of course.

Thanks J. Nice work. At this size screen and with the lighting tricked out a bit, it does look very close. Might work fine for the similar kinds of things that I would use it for. I was actually thinking of reversing it, using the 700 for the establishing shots, and the other cameras for close ups.
