Original DVX100- should I buy?

Hi everyone- I'm a very new member here, looking to make my first investment in a camera. I am currently looking at an original DVX100, with 272 hours logged, with two 4-hours batteries. Very nice condition, although I'm looking into where those 272 hours were logged (whether outdoor or studio).

The price is 1400. Good buy (assuming good care from previous owner) or should I hold out for a dvx100a or b?

Thanks!

I was going to buy one too, but it doesn't have the 16x9 squeeze. You'll need to buy a widescreen adapter which runs around $800.

this apparently comes with a "16:9 converter so you can shoot in anamorphic mode."
I've read about the DVX100 quality being grainier than in the a, and that there are important upgrades in the 100a and even more in the b. Is my image quality still going to beat the image quality of say, the Sony Hdr-HC1 that i've been borrowing (guiltily) from a friend?
Bottom line- does the DVX100 still rock compared to a lot of what's out there, or is it outdated?
