Organizing those AVCHD files...

Hi I'm just wondering how everyone is organizing the AVCHD files they are recording on their GH1/GH2.
I remember reading that the file structure was important, so I have been creating a new folder on my HD named for each shoot date and location/description, and then just dropping the "Private" folder from the memory card in there. It does work, but its a bit of a pain to browse through. Especially when I am going back through archived footage.
How is everyone else organizing their stuff?

I think FCP needs the structure, EDIUS doesn't

I copy the files across then name the directory with the card name - 16a, 16b etc - then use a bulk renaming utility to rename the files - 00001.mts to 16a-01.mts

Thanks for the replies. So as long as long as I'm using premiere (which I am), I can just copy the mts files themselves and not bother with the whole folders?
That would make things a bit easier.

yep, im on premier and i just dump into a raw folder of the project and batch rename to whatever using infranview.
