I saw an ad on ebay for the hvx from big 10 media and gave them a call. Talked to Billy who imports cameras from japan. He is shipping mine out tomorrow with 2 4gb cards. the only difference with the camera is the manual is in Japanese, which you can download from the Panasonic website. It cost a little more than from EVS ( which I was #160 on) but it will be worth it. Billy seems like a great guy. Just wanted to give the Heads up. Big10media has already sold 20 cams, compared to the 8 or so that evs has gotten.

enjoy

I'm still going to get all of my accessories from evs, but needed the cam asap.

If the manual is Japanese, then that may mean that it's not intended for import to the US - ("gray market camera").
If that is in fact the case, then it may not come with a U.S. Panasonic Warranty.

You might want to look into that, if it's an issue for you.

The only potential problem I see here is warranty. The manufacturer warranty on the camera will only be valid in Japan. What type of support is Billy and Big 10 Media willing to offer in regards to that? I don't know if third-party warranty products like the Mack extended warranties would work with the camera or not.

A friend of mine located in Japan already offered to ship me an HVX200, but I declined for the above reason. That and it wouldn't save me any money, just another week or two of waiting.

Doesn't Panasonic offer a World Wide warrenty plan ? I mean if I were to go on a trip to china and my camera broke, I really think I should beable to bring it for repair on the warranty.

I know I have this on my other buisness equipement

Just checked Big10media's website and here's what they had to say:

Warranties

New items are covered by a manufacturer's USA or International warranty

USA warranty: customers are asked to contact the authorized service centers or the respective manufacture in the event that your equipment requires service during and after the warranty period.

International warranty (grey market items): covered by manufacturer's warranty in the country of origin. Big10 Media will deliver your equipment to the manufacturer or service center via our Florida office. Shipping expenses to and from Florida are the responsibility of the buyer.

I discussed the warranty options with Billy and he explained that they would either replace the item or send it to japan for service. The US Warranty is non exsistent. I'll let you know how the camera is when I get it. I plan to do a complete analysis of the camera a long side my buddy's HVX. Just to make sure the menu options are all in english and that the camera works exactly the same. We are planning on doing some long in-depth tests along side the SDX900. We will post them as soon as we are finished.

I am also in the process of getting equipment insurance for my Computer, Camera Gear, Lights and various other items. I'm dealing with Dewitt-stearn, who deals in entertainment insurance. I need to make sure that I can rent out the gear and it still be covered. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not they have used Dewitt-stearn and how long does it take for them to get the equipment replaced if it is broken.

Are there other insurance companies you would recommend?

Cool. So, they have an office here in FLorida. Do you know where? I'm wondering if they would stock it here. If they do, I'd be willing to go check it out. I am on the AVS list and need to wait till March, but I'd be down with checking it out for the online bros... Hopefully though it's not in Miami. I try to visit there... as infrequently as possible... which is how I like to visit LA... infrequently.... lol

I just checked out there site and sent an email. I've never even heard of South Pasadena in FL. I also dig that they rent cameras. for 250 a day, camera- tripod and 2 8 gig P2 cards. That sounds like a pretty darn good deal.

I'm inquiring as to what insurance they need as that can be the deal breaker.

It's near St. Pete, I've never been that far south in florida. Do you live near there?
If you could check out the camera and see if the firmware is 1.03.00. I would greatly appreciate it. Keep me informed.

he sent me a pic of the firmware in the menu. It's the new one. I'm excited I thought I was going to wait until june for my camera. I order this week and will have it hopefully by Friday. I hope this helps others out who need the camera immediately.

I'll keep everyone posted on when I get it and test it alongside Haakons HVX. It should be a good time.

Here is the link to the firmware pic

I'm thinking of buying one from them also...please let me know how it goes with camera. If everything works, then I'm going to go ahead and get it now rather than wait...

The mack warranty is a good Idea. I plan on sending the cam back to big 10 media and them shipping it to japan if I have any problems. Also, I'm getting equipment insurance incase anything happens. It will be a monthly plan that will also cover all of my other gear.

I'll keep you updated when I get the camera. I'm waiting for the check to clear and should have the cam by mid next week.
