Re: orange

and its 60i too, ithikn it looks good for 60i. i had to soften it a little.

Re: orange

It does look REALLY good for 60i. I would have thought 24p.  What kind of scorcery or voodoo is behind this?

Nice job. Any video?

Slimothy: Your penquin avatar is hilarious. Does the CG look good at full size?

Re: orange

a chandelier in my dining room and my desk lamp. + a littel tweaking. Edgenoise reducer, and a little contrast boost

Re: orange

im wondering if you could post the same image before the postproduction magic to compare

Re: orange

sure here it is. hmm now that i look at it i think i might have put a little saturation in there.... i was playing with the image so i did alot to it, then kept undoing them back to origional.

the difference looks like more than just contrast.

Re: orange

Amazing!

No...just kidding.  It's a hand holding an orange (with visible interlacing at that).

I read a few "wow" posts then had to scroll up again to see if I had missed something.

It's really easy to get a good grab.  Especially a close up.  Nothing personally against x2mag because I see quite a few people doing it.

If its an effect, a new lens adapter, scene, cool location, or something...that would be cool.  But seeing people go crazy over an orange, or headphones, or scissors...I just don't get it.  The camera is good, you stick something right in front of it and you'll get a good picture of it.

Re: orange

I agree with Exman.

It's a hand; holding an orange. :-/ ??? What's all the hoopla about? Interlacing painfully obvious. Again, no derog intended towards submitter but....

Did I miss something?

Re: orange

i dunno, i wasnt expecting any reaction at all actually.  i just put it up for the hell of it. someone asked me about lighting.

Im as baffled as you.  its just that, a hand holding an orange.  with a crushed black background.  and i used out of Barry book tricks for short DOF....  nothign else.

i thikn i shot it thinking i was gonna slow it down with the deinterlace trick from the DVX dvd. for "dramatic" effect. hence the 60i.

Re: orange

haha, also it seems john dont like my aesthetics. he gave me some stiff criticism on my other video art projects too. its cool though, its good to hear criticism.

Re: orange

The bad:
Exaggerated reactions to a still that could be part of really bad shaky footage.

No expectations set. Not sure what the poster hopes for in terms of responses. "It looks good, any chance you can change the fingerprints a little?" :D

The Good:
The poster is actually shooting and this is a good thing.

Even a non-descript still can sometimes inspire something in others.

I agree with ExFilms that the reactions sometimes for screengrabs and footage can be worthless. This is not a comment on any individual but what can a poster gain from a comment that says "Looks great" or "Loved it". I guess it's good for the ego but certainly doesn't help you as a filmmaker which is the whole point of being here.

It's hard to respond to something completely out of context. A single grab is impossible to comment on unless it happens to be something extraordinary or something with a lot of information in it. A before and after can be productive, for instance.

Anyway, I hope x2mag68 isn't getting pissed off that his post is being hijacked by issues much larger than this thread.

Re: orange

no im not pissed. its cool everyone. This whole section for the most part is just a place to show off, anyway. not in the self righteous way, but like, hey look what i am doing way.

i dunno, it seemed to be the place to keep people posted on the progression of ones work.

but Djecta is right. Grabs are just that. grabs. the whole point of Video is motion and sound and the viewing experince. hence, its difficult to understand what the whole idea behind the footage is by an artifacted grab.
But sometimes i honeslty just use he DVX as a kind of photo camera. just set it somehwhere pretty. shoot for 15 econds, change locale. rinse repeat....... etc.

for example

sun7zv.jpg

its just a tree, but im creating a kind of relaxation video for Manhattan-ites, so they can experince the "wilderness" that is brooklyn. ( oh how ironic! haha) so im just making pretty images and focusing on attractive objects and places in brooklyn, sometimes its a hand peeling an orange..... you know. but um... i dunno, i just posted it. i wasnt expecting anythign. in return. someone like the look, cool, you can make it in post. i guess Lalo, likes the "look" and wanted to know how i made it look like that.

Re: orange

x2mag68

LOL That was you in the other thread? Oops. ::) Sorry. :P I guess I was just seconding what EX stated (and now Djis). SOmeone submitted a short recently and another poster said "It's good to see actual short films being submitted now; instead of grabs and montages..." (I'm summing it up).

This issue has nothing to do with you nor your art, nor anything else. It was just a "...it's a hand, holding an orange, with interlacing...." and gettings the typical "Looks great!" responses. I thought maybe I was just missing something :P

FWIW - That grab of the tree is indeed picturesque and nice. :-[ :-/ :D

I guess we (and that means me as well) just need to start making films and shorts. ;D

Re: orange

haha, yea seriously, we need to actually make stuff instead of just futzing around.

well when my project is done i'll try and post it somehow.
