Optimising performance for low light situations

Hi.
New here.
I'm Filming a short with my DVX100A , for my final project at The Arts Institute, Bournemouth. I've done some test shots for establishing landscape scenes in low light, just as the sun is setting. The results are very grainy. I've tried not to over compensate with the gain, and it's still grainy. Ther's no movement in the shots, they're just still landscapes. Any suggestions which settings might optimise the performance of the camera in such low light and reduce the amount of noise?

Thanks

Rod

What gamma setting are you using? Cinelike D and cinematrix (for color) I believe create more noise than the other settings.

I would say set the gain on the lowest possible and never move it again! It gets way too grainy even on it's lowest setting.

Since there's no movement in the shots, you could switch to a very slow shutter speed. That will essentially give you more light to work with. You could also try adjusting the detail coring a little. Bump it up a couple of notches and see if that gets rid of some of the grain.

When I got the camera a few days ago I noticed this immediately. Its not even grain, more like color noise...and wow does it look awful. Ive managed to eliminate most of the noise by taking the detail down to -4, chroma to -0, and pedestal down to -5. The color temp seems to generate a TON of noise from -7 to 0...so I keep it around +3, but the color is pretty dull.

Although noise still does appear in dark areas, its not as noticeable. You know, i wouldnt even mind if it was grain. This color noise is just disgusting. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
