For those avid youtube uploaders, what are the the optimal settings I can use to actually make a clip look decent?

Supposedly the secret is to encode into Mpg4 (DIVX) at 320x240, 30FPS
with MP3 sound. I tried it and it looked pretty good for Youtube.

That's what youtube recommends, but does anyone have any tricks when encoding, or any other special setting, like bitrate?
