Opteka Fisheye samples. great 200 dollar option

Greetings all and I've been meaning to put up these samples for a while and today I finally did that. I've got two examples in this clip... One has some post work in terms of some dissolves and such, and the other is just a camera original. Neither has had any other processing. I've used this on a bunch of shoots and I absolutely love the fisheye with the knowledge that you need to clean it a good while before or after the shoot since the focus is right on the lens and the smudges and such will show up. For 200 bucks it's just as good as the century except that it's not a bayonett mount.. which is both good and bad. It's good in that you can use it on any 72mm camera and bad in that it takes a bit more time to take on and off. I do use this with a filter just because it would be easy to stratch the naked lens....

I'll post other samples when I get around to it.. but it's a great wide angle or fish option and doesn't have the superfish look which is a gimick anyway... This is something that I find myself using quite a lot and I highly recommend it.

cheers and enjoy.. comments and feedback welcome.

Looks good. Is this the one you are using?

I have been looking at this one for a while. The HMC is already pretty wide- so do you get any vignetting at full wide (z00)? I thought I saw some here:

Never noticed it and its not a concern as its way out of action safe. That could be the filter... plus this has partial zoom through. The. 3 has vignette.... this not so much, Amritsar 200. Do not usethe cheap spacer.....its crap and you won't. Be able to get it off the cam.

Some people will find fault with everything...for what I do it's perfect.

I said I thought it looked good, and wasn't trying to find a fault here. Besides- I thought comments and feedback were welcome...

I pointed this out because I have seen several HMC clips using this 0.4 fisheye and not one of them showed vignetting, and neither did yours. Except for a few secs where I was curious if it was something in the frame.

Sorry if my lack of clarification offended you.

wasn't directed at you... Edweirdo.... you have been a good member of this site, I was refering in general and to an email I got which said that Opteka only produces crap. Well that might have been the case and might still be, but I've been very happy with this set-up.

Either way, I posted this to show the results and you did point out something. I can't say for sure if it's vignetting or if it's the filter that I"m using or something else on the camera as I was using some handgrips too shoot this.

Sorry if it sounded like it was directed at you... if it was then id' have said so.. I haven't ever really noticed anything with this setup and that's better than the 600 dollar century. That had major vignetting. I'll have to check over some of my footage but mostly it's for broadcast so it would never make it into a clip anyway.. but if it were for online then I could see how it might be a pain.

cheers and yes, feedback is welcome.

As I warned though... DO NOT use the space that they send.. but one thing that was nice was that they sent me a free hat and it shipped on time and well packaged. It's a good cheap source.. My next choice will be to find a reaonsably priced teleconverter. I used to buy Century stuff but their rep was such a nasty PITA and I've vowed to not buy there products in the future. It's nice to be able to spend your money elsewhere. cheers

Sounds like typical gear-snobbery- they never realize its "crap" by watching the clips, only by watching the price tag.

I like what I have seen from this lens- do you have a side by side grab from your cam with and without the lens? I am curious how much it adds with the cam at full wide.

Thanks for sharing,
Ed

I don't have anything right now but I'll snoop around and see what I have. It does add considerable width to the camera without going overly distorted... there's some but not too much and certainly not death lens amount. I have a shoot this weekend so I'll try and get some shots then.
