Opinions on new video

Hi,

48h Film Project is coming to my town and I thought it'd be a cool challenge to take on. So, yesterday I tried to do some shots with no clear plot to see how I'd make it by filming on counterclock. Watching the final result I can spot some distraction mistakes like unwanted reflections, scenes that were lit in a rush, etc. It's hard to keep it all under control but I've been trying to delegate a lot of those responsabilities to my team.

Well, enough talk, here is video (please watch in HD):

Any thoughts of what I could've done better and how?

Thanks for watching :)

Positives - you got a pretty nice emotional flow going with your pacing. Thats actually IMO one of the toughest parts to nail down. SO well done on that.

You already know your issues for the most part. HEH could see the whole crew in that bumper.

Ill move onto some other things.

From the bed he gets up. Was it important for us to see him walking down the hall? What is the purpose of this sequence of shots. TO me it seemed to be to show his hesitation, his anxiety, his sadness about facing her and her problem so to speak. I think you got the emotion there, but distracted by the walking shots. Esp. the cut to OTS, we start the ots looking at a blank wall. Whats to be gained by looking at that wall? How did that help? It didnt right, so IMO you could just cut all that and cut to him already at the door and get the emotion before he knocks. I think you tried to be too clever by getting the camera movement. I like to move the camera around when it serves a real purpose.

Then to her answering, all her shots at the door were out of focus.

Then BOOM at 1:04 you crossed the line.

Cant really comment on thes rest when the guy arrives in the van as I cant tell from that where its going.

As I said you got the emotional pacing right and again thats a tough thing to do, so well done there. Just looking at this and how it came together I think you'd really benefit if you had a dedicated DP.

Many thanks for the great comment and for spending the time with the insightful review. My initial thoughts with the hall scene with him walking was to show his isolation. I love the way halls tend to exaggerate that kind of emotions. I learned a lot of things during this shooting and most of them I've passed on to my team. So that next time we do this, everybody is more focused on each task. Something that I also noticed was that his voice had too much bass. Probably the boom was pointed too low. My sound guy was pointing from below instead of above.
