Buying electronics is a no hoper if you even consider getting money back for upgrading. Look at the silly prices people try to get for old SD kit on ebay. They paid lots of money, so put them on sale for 50 to 75% of what they paid 3 or 4 years ago, and watch them just sit there. I watched one that I have go for a tenth of it's cost just four years before. Unless you have very deep pockets, the speed of new models and the shortening time before your new gem becomes 'discontinued' means all hope of always having the latest kit has gone for me.
Interestingly, not one of my clients since May has actually asked for HD, and a colleague (who just spent £8,000 on an HD lens) still churns out most work as SD projects.
