opening iris for white out-bad for lens?

I was doing some surreal scene in a horror short where i used this a bunch of times in-camera as a white-out effect. Does this damage the lens in any way and I've done it a bunch of times, especially when i first got the camera.


Is it bad to do this? Has it hurt anything internal if I did this too much?

anyone? or am I just being paranoid?

I'm always so worried that I'm messing with something in a way it's intended for. I worry about the lens. I was reveiewing some old tapes and I did this white-out effect alot the first and 5 day i shot this horror short and I guess i'm a bit paranoid

It will not hurt the lens but if you are pointing it at the sun you could damage the chips.
