opal diffuser for gg?

Go Mike!

You are the man in T.O. I finally figured out how to clean my gg.. now my dolly to focus work is spectacular and clean... yes!

Mike:

thanks for the link. So which size are you ordering? I have my own 35mm adapter using 55mm filters rings? Also, how scratch resisant are these babies. I have used several beattie screens and those suckers scratch like nobodies business!!!! At $175 a pop...that sucks!

Not to sure yet its on its way. I got the 50mm dia it should fit in a 52 filter.. Thanks matt I will hook you up with some new parts when I get back you can test them out for me.

You might reconsider. Read the details about the two type, gg and opal:

Also, due to the thickness specification of the coating, opal glass should not be used in highly-toleranced opto-mechanical systems. Ground glass is best used in projection systems as a screen.

more light loss yes but less gain...maybe no grain at all it was only $18 with shipping its worth a try.

Mike,

Any tests on the opal diffuser yet? I'm curious to see if it worked out better than the gg from a UV lens filer or the optosigma? I'd really like to hear what you got for us.

twocik:

do you get any visible grain on either gritz? Any you would highly recommend? Also does it perfectly fit in a 55mm spacer ring do you have to rig it? Any capture screens to share? Thanks.

I just got it and it sucks soooooo much. its got a crease in the top part but the good thing is there is less grain

DON"T BUY ONE GUYS!

Thanks, Mike, you saved us the headaches.

I was wondering if the optisigma would be a better option, I'm considering buying one but I don't know if the diameter would be an issue given that I am using mostly 55mm spacer rings.

I've used the Beattie screen....3 of them due to scratching! Unlike the article in Holyzoo were he states that the screens are almost impossible to scratch...mine scratch all the time when trying to clean then. Those screens are so so so delicate. I have taken so good care of them but yet they always find a way to get scratched. At $175 a pop.....it sucks if you loose one!

Here is some test footage I had posted some time ago.
