One side only on earphone

I own a DVC 60 and DVX 100a and both only allow for one side of the earphones to work when I plug it into the camcorder.

Is this an issue on all panasonic camcorders?

It's not really an issue on any Panasonic camcorder.

A couple of things could be happening.

You could be not pushing the earphone plug all the way in. But that's not likely, if you've done it multiple times.

More likely is that you've only got one channel of audio running. Do you have an external mic plugged in?

If you do, plug it into Input 2 and then assign both channels of audio to Input 2. You do this with the orange switches behind the LCD.

Then, you should hear audio in both headphone speakers.

(Unless there's something wrong with your headphones.)

Hi David

Thank you for your reply.

I have both xlrs plugged in and coming in on both channels and only have one side of the earphone working. this was on both of my camcorders the DVC 60 and DVX 100

Do you think it is because my earphones are Sony's?

If not, is there a headphone setting in the menu of the dvx to change it to two channels?

Thank you !

It's not because they're Sony; nearly everyone uses 7506s. But there may be something wrong with your specific pair.

I tried three pairs of headphones and all of them were good on one side. I did this with both camcorders the dvx 100a and the dvc 60 and both only allowed me to hear on one side?

Is there a setting for head phones where you can allow for both channels to be heard?

There is no such setting. Both channels should be heard by default.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow a bad (bent or oversized) plug got pushed into both cameras, damaging the internal connections. From that point on, any other headsets plugged in would only make contact with one channel.

I assume you're seeing the audio levels responding for both channels on the LCD, right? If so, it seems to me a damaged headphone jack is the only possible culprit. The fact that it's occurring on two different cameras would lead me to believe that something was plugged into both cameras -- something that caused the physical damage to the internal connectors.

Also, I see another thread you started 2 days ago, saying you were having trouble getting both connected mics to work on your DVX100a at the same time. Did you ultimately decide the mics DO work, and the headphones are the problem? Or is it possible you're still not getting audio on both channels?

Hi Guys thanks for your replies!

I found out that the two xlrs are working fine and bring audio into my NLE with no problem.

The problem I have is due to the head phones or a damaged jack as stated.

I did get two sides working when I pulled the plug out a little ways and not flushed. So I believe that it is due to the Sony headphones I am using,

I sure hope I find an answer aroung this problem

The phones I am using has two stripes on the plug so I assume it is 3 contact points. Do you think if I get the 4 contact I may get two sides to work? I think getting one of those 4 point plugs may solve my one sided earphone problem.

Does anyone out there know where I can get a set of earphones with the 4 points of contact?

No, the 3-contact plug is what you want. I thought there might be an outside chance you had headphones with 4 contacts, which could account for the problem you're having. The jack in the DVX100a uses the 3-contact plug.

I'm guessing you have damaged jacks on both camcorders. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause the problem you're describing. Slightly pulling the plug out could bring it into contact with a bent connector. The fact that that works makes it almost certainly a problem with the jack itself.

Sorry. Only solution to that is to have the cameras repaired.
