I'm in the market for one... but one only.
If you could pick one Russian telephoto lens, what would it be?

Its a GDR lens, but the (Preset) Meyer Orestor / Pencaton 135mm 2.8 is a pretty nice lens for the price!

It has excellent bokeh, and built like a tank. You can get it for ~30$.

USSR Tair-11A 135mm f2.8 lots of blades too, nice & cheap M42 adapter. not russian, but I love the Porst 135mm f1.5 too

Jupiter-9 85mm f2 is nice too & helios 40-2 85mm f1.5 has swirly bokeh but that might be shorter than you need for fullframe. both are great on the 7D !

I've got a Jupiter 9 85 f/2 and it has horrendous coma wide open and down to about f/8, mind you, that might not be a problem for DSLR video. It also has a lot of iris blades and a long focus throw.

No, these are:

But buy it for much less! Ebay sellers tends to overprice M42 lenses.
And also be sure to examine the lens carefully, because half of them has some kind of fungus inside on the glass elements, because of the old coatings and the leather case where they was stored.

Some pictures i took with it:

More examples by someone else, to see what bokeh we are talkin about:

Its not the sharpest 135mm lens, and sometimes flares can turnd down contrast badly, but as mentioned before, it has 15 iris blades and 2.8 aperture - cant wait to try it out on a HDSLR myself!

Err this is rough wading through all the electric ones and a million different ways titles are written on eBay!!
So a fair price for one is ~30? They all seem to be 50+ on eBay. Where else is a good source to get my hands on one of these lenses?

Those pictures are beautiful by the way.

I think you should search for local vintage camera gear stores/markets, and try to find a good native forum where you can sell and buy used lenses.
The ~30$ price range is just my experience btw in Hungary, because people here has a lot of old lenses to trade, but i saw auctions in the UK ebay market too with the same low price.

Unfortunately there are no such places in San Francisco... I guess I'll keep searching!

rhervag,
yea, I think 85mm is a bit shorter than what I'm looking for with the 5d. I'm looking more in the range of 135-200.
