Hey all I am planning to buy a new camera. My first one. Previously I have been shooting on various cameras on rent like the PD170, the DSR250, the DSR400 then I moved on to HDV the Z1 and the V1. I never owned camera before but I think now is the time. I have my mind on these 2 cameras: The EX1 and the Af100. Now I am posting this thread in the XDCAM section because I am leaning more towards the EX1. I need your help. My work is mostly narrative films, music videos, Advertisments and a little bit of documentary. DOF is not my issue. I understand it better than most people and think of it as a tool rather than a necessity. I know what low light is. Both cameras are good in it but the Af100 has an edge. Obviously it has a bigger sensor but there have been complains about the noise. Heres what I think:

Sony PMW EX1:
- SXS cards are much better than the SDHC or the SDXC IMO.
- Sharper and more crisp quality
- Better skin tones (yes i believe that)
- Better codec ( i believe this too, i just think that AVCHD is too consumerish)
- Better color rendition
- Lower costs (no lens, adapters, follow focus, matte box)

Panasonic AG AF100:
- Bigger sensor meaning dof and better low light (have heard about the issues of noise)
- Expandibilty
- New single chip technology

Now I like the Sony F3 better but its not in my range. So I was thinking of buying the EX1 now and then later on move on to F3. I would have all the accessories like SXS cards and batteries for it. Plus I would know the ins and outs of the XDCAM line. Please help me out as to which one to buy!

If you're future upgrade plan involves the F3 then go with the EX1, It's a great camera that shoots amazing images and when it comes time to get an F3 you won't have to re buy your media.
